• 6.White Space: Incorporate open, neutral space in your slides to enhance legibility and comprehension by avoiding clutter.
• 7.Font: Use a clear, readable font throughout, keeping it large enough for the audience to see and consistent across slides to maintain focus on your message.
• 8.High-Quality Images: Ensure images are sharp, appropriately sized, and align with your color scheme; avoid watermarks and properly credit sources for non-original images.
• 9.Proofread: Thoroughly check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, especially in headlines, and consider having someone else review your slides.

Access Program: A Milestone in My Professional Journey

My teaching journey began nearly 14 years ago, marked by challenges, perseverance, and moments of profound inspiration. Born into a family of educators, with my father as a dedicated teacher, one might think teaching was an obvious path for me. However, witnessing my father's struggles—including political persecution for his beliefs—cast a shadow over my perception of the teaching profession. Despite these hurdles, I stepped into the world of teaching at a private English medium school after completing my proficiency certificate-level examination.

Balancing my professional and academic pursuits, I earned both my Bachelor's and double Master's degrees from Prithivi Narayan Campus, Pokhara. Yet, like many educators, I reached a crossroads, considering either a career switch or seeking opportunities abroad. It was during this uncertain phase that I joined the English Access Micro-Scholarship Program as a part-time English Instructor. This moment became a turning point, reshaping my outlook, reigniting my passion, and transforming me from a novice teacher into a motivated, confident, and purpose-driven educator.

Today, I serve as a Curriculum Developer in an international company remotely and as an English Teacher at a public campus. Reflecting on my transformative four-year journey with the Access Program—two years under HSYWE (Himalayan Society for Youths and Women Empowerment) and two years under NELTA (Nepal English Language Teachers' Association), funded by the US Embassy (2015-2019)—I can confidently say that this program was a catalyst for both professional growth and personal transformation. Below are some of the key milestones from this journey:

1. International School Award (ISA) 2016-2019
The Access Program equipped me with innovative curriculum design and international collaboration skills. As the ISA Coordinator at Himanchal Boarding School, I implemented these skills effectively, helping the school secure the International School Award from the British Council and the Department of Education, Nepal.

2. Enhanced English Language Teaching Skills
The program offered me a 120-hour TESOL certification and access to world-class resources like American English State. These opportunities paved the way for me to become an English teacher at a public Campus and an IELTS instructor.

3. Confidence and Positivity
Through enhancement activities and community service projects, I built unshakable confidence and developed a positive mindset. These experiences allowed me to break stereotypes, enrich my teaching practices, and earn recognition and rewards from my school administration.

4. Connection and Collaboration
The Access Program connected me with educators, mentors, and professionals from diverse backgrounds. I cultivated strong relationships with students and peers, transitioning into roles beyond teaching: mentor, coach, facilitator, and manager.

5. A Global and Digital Citizen
The program introduced me to global cultures, diverse perspectives, and digital literacy skills. The computer lab access at the Access Center played a crucial role in enhancing my tech skills, and I later completed an E-Teacher course on Professional Development for Teacher Trainers.

6. Cultivating a Reading Habit
The Book Club culture within the Access Program instilled in me a passion for reading. Today, reading is not just a habit but a lifelong commitment, enriching both my personal and professional life.

7. A Multifaceted Skillset
Through Access, I honed skills in leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and digital literacy. These competencies have been instrumental in my role as a Curriculum Developer, where I've contributed to empowering over 8,000 individuals across 135 countries.

8. Access to Global Resources
I benefited from webinars, global memberships (e.g., TESOL International), specialized EFL training sessions, and an abundance of educational resources tailored for emerging educators.

In conclusion, the English Access Micro-Scholarship Program has been a cornerstone in my professional and personal transformation. Techniques for Overcoming Stage Fright: Lessons from My Journey

Stage fright—a universal experience shared by both novice and seasoned speakers—is a fear that can feel paralyzing. As the Immediate Past President of the Pokhara Toastmasters Club, I have walked this path firsthand. My first speech was nerve-wracking; my hands were trembling, my voice was shaky, and my mind was flooded with questions: What will they think of me? Will I mess up? Will they laugh at me?

The Turning Point: Crafting a Speech Outline

Over time, I discovered that preparation was my greatest ally. On my first day, I wrote down every single word of my speech. By the second day, I reduced it to half a page. By the third day, I had distilled it down to just key points. This approach allowed me to focus on delivery rather than memorization. Gradually, I replaced filler words like umm, ah, uh with purposeful pauses, creating moments for both myself and the audience to breathe and connect.

The Power of Practice and Repetition

After delivering more than 35 speeches at club meetings, regional contests, and national-level events, I learned that experience is one of the most effective cures for stage fright. The best way to overcome the fear of public speaking is to speak whenever and wherever you get the chance—be it a small gathering or a large event. Every opportunity is a stepping stone.

1. Prepare a Clear Speech Outline: Have a well-structured speech, from the opening to the conclusion.

2. Build Self-Confidence: I often say a prayer before stepping on stage: "Dear Lord, you are with me, and I can do this because you strengthen me."

3. Embrace Your Uniqueness: Recognize that you bring something special to the stage. You have prepared, practiced, and are ready.

4. Focus on Impact, Not Approval: Instead of worrying about what the audience thinks, visualize the positive impact your words will have.

5. Master the Art of Pauses: Strategic pauses add power to your message and keep your audience engaged.

6. Maintain Eye Contact and Gestures: Connect with your audience through sincere eye contact and natural gestures.

7. Speak from the Heart: Authenticity always shines through.

The Mindset Shift

Stage fright often stems from a fear of judgment. Shift your focus from yourself to your audience. Remind yourself: "I am here to share something valuable, and the audience is here because they want to hear me." Visualize them clapping, nodding, and engaging with your message.

Every Experience is a Lesson

Whether you succeed or stumble, every speech teaches you something valuable. If you fail, you learn. If you succeed, you grow.

Christmas is a time of joy, reflection, and gratitude. It’s not just about the festivities but about understanding the profound love story God has written for humanity. Here are five powerful Bible stories that have deeply impacted my mindset:

1. The Story of Creation (Genesis 1:1, 26-27) "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth... Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.'"

The story of Genesis reveals God’s divine purpose in creating the earth, the sky, and humanity. He didn’t just create us randomly; He created us for fellowship with Him. This story reminds me that our primary purpose is to walk in a relationship with our Creator.

2. The Fall of Humanity (Genesis 3:8-10) "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden... and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden."

The fall story is a painful reminder of how humanity rejected and disconnected from God. Adam and Eve’s disobedience caused them to hide in shame, and this pattern continues in our lives today. Sin still creates a barrier between us and God, leaving us in need of reconciliation.

3. The Story of the Lost Son (Luke 15:11-32) "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."

Despite humanity’s disconnection, God’s love remains constant. The parable of the lost son illustrates a powerful truth: even when we stray and feel unworthy, God welcomes us back with open arms when we confess and return. His love isn’t based on our qualifications but on His grace.

4. The Story of Jesus Christ (John 3:16) "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus Christ’s life, crucifixion, and resurrection are the ultimate acts of love and sacrifice. Though sin separated us from God, Jesus bridged that gap. His death paid the price for our sins, and His resurrection brought us hope and salvation.

5. The Story of Thomas (John 20:27-29) "Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands. Stop doubting and believe.'"

Thomas doubted Jesus’ resurrection until he could see and touch Him. But when he encountered the risen Christ, his doubts turned into unshakable faith. 

These five stories paint a beautiful picture of God’s love, forgiveness, and redemption. No matter how far we’ve strayed, how broken we feel, or how many doubts we carry, true satisfaction and purpose are found only in Jesus Christ.

Community colleges and higher education institutions in Nepal are facing a silent yet profound crisis. It is evident that these institutions are under siege from multiple forces, both internal and external. To understand the depth of this crisis, we must first clarify what community colleges should represent. They are meant to be inclusive spaces—established by the community, for the community. These institutions should embody diversity, collaboration, and shared responsibility. However, the reality in Nepal paints a different picture.

A monopoly of ideas, often dominated by single entity has stifled the growth and impact of community colleges. When a community college is controlled by any one group, it loses its inclusive nature. True diversity, which is essential for a thriving educational institution, remains largely absent. Rather than focusing on academic excellence, many community colleges have been infiltrated by political alliances and vested interests. Decisions are made not to improve education but to serve narrow political agendas. The lack of understanding of modern curricula, evaluation systems, and teaching methodologies among many leaders further weakens these institutions from within.

The University Grants Commission (UGC), tasked with enforcing academic standards, has often fallen short. Grants and awards are distributed without a thorough assessment of whether institutions meet the required benchmarks. For example, a recent article in Kantipur highlighted concerns about the lack of adherence to standards at a reputed university, KU. Until higher institutions comply with good governance, accountability, and standards, the legitimacy of their awards and accolades is questionable. Higher institutions, it is time to reflect: if you’re not adhering to accountability and good governance, halt all curricular activities until you do.

Outdated curricula and irrelevant textbooks plague many classrooms. While subjects like ELT Technology are being taught, classrooms are ill-equipped to deliver these lessons effectively. Genuine community participation remains rare, with political players often dominating decision-making, sidelining local stakeholders. Bias against students from others is also evident. One of the key issues plaguing Nepal’s community colleges and higher institutions is the lack of value placed on talented faculty members. Inclusivity is rarely prioritized in research initiatives, and instead of serving as platforms for genuine academic inquiry, RMCs have become tools for securing grants and advancing personal agendas. Practical application, adherence to research standards, and meaningful contributions to academic growth are largely absent in these committees across community colleges.

Furthermore, unhealthy competition between community colleges hinders collective progress. Many still rely on outdated practices such as rote learning and superficial evaluation systems, with little focus on innovation or adapting to new educational trends.

Nepal’s higher education sector suffers from a lack of clear institutional vision, resulting in stagnant growth and an alarming trend of students choosing to study abroad. Many students view foreign education as a dream opportunity—offering exposure to advanced academic systems, global networking, and professional growth. They are drawn by better career prospects, financial independence, and the chance to develop personally and professionally. Common reasons cited include societal and peer pressure, political interference in academics, outdated curricula, limited job opportunities, and weak governance in Nepal’s institutions. Abroad, students find respect for hard work, improved language proficiency, and access to global career networks. This ongoing brain drain reflects a failure in Nepal’s education system to inspire confidence and deliver quality outcomes. 

To address these challenges, a collective effort is required. Without urgent reforms in academic governance, innovation, and accountability, Nepal risks losing its brightest minds to foreign shores.We must prioritize diversity and inclusivity in governance and faculty, eliminate political interference, and appoint visionary leaders with strong academic credentials. Curricula and teaching methodologies must be updated to meet contemporary needs, and institutions must be held accountable to standards of transparency, good governance, and ethical practices. Faculty members should be empowered with professional development opportunities, and we must restore trust through consistent, ethical practices.

The crisis facing Nepal’s community colleges and higher institutions is not insurmountable. With genuine leadership, focused efforts, and active community involvement, these institutions can once again become pillars of accessible, high-quality education.
